Golden State Warriors Team News - From Yahoo Sports
The 2017-18 NBA season doesn't really exist for the Los Angeles Lakers. At least, not in the way it exists, for example, for the Golden State Warriors or the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Boston Celtics or the San Antonio Spurs, or even the Brooklyn Nets whose overperformance this year could scupper Cleveland's best-laid plans. For Luke Walton, Magic Johnson and the rebuilding Lakers, the 2017-18 NBA season that begins on Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena when the Celtics visit the Cavaliers is about intangibles, a deliberately frustrating and ambiguous term that stands, in this case, for small steps in the direction marked "Playoffs" and, eventually, the NBA Finals.

Steve Nash is a part-time consultant for Golden State. Steve Nash never got a championship ring during his 18-year NBA career as a player. It was only until last season when he earned his first ring - as a player development consultant with the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors will not be using pyrotechnics at Tuesday's opener out of respect for those affected by the Northern California wildfires. With the series of deadly wildfires still raging through Northern California, the Golden State Warriors have decided not to use pyrotechnics at Tuesday's season opener against the Houston Rockets, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Warriors pregame pyrotechnic display is known to be one of the most complex displays in the league.

Utah Jazz point guard Dante Exum will have surgery next week on his injured left shoulder, the team said on Monday, with no timetable set for his NBA return. The procedure to stabilize the shoulder is set for October 24 -- a week after the NBA season tips off on Tuesday. Exum suffered a separated shoulder and ligament damage in a pre-season game against the Phoenix Suns on October 6.

Sorry to Oklahoma City, Houston, San Antonio, Boston or Cleveland (and clearly, nobody else even has a tiny bit of a chance), but the Golden State Warriors are going to win unless something weird happens. It will be entertaining to watch a fun Warriors club win it all. The term "parity" has been used ad nauseam to describe the NFL for decades now.

The Golden State Warriors have seemingly turned another parade along Lake Merritt into a see-you-in-June formality, barring any debilitating injuries or suspensions. To provide a distraction from an expected Warriors coronation, the NBA needed the wildest offseason in more than two decades. With four All-Stars all in their primes, the Warriors have a chance to rule for the foreseeable future, especially after an offseason in which the team added more shooting and depth.

The follow-up assessment posted in early May was kinder, though it still concluded that Curry's NBA prospects were, at best, "an interesting case." The report on was more scathing: "Far below NBA standard in regard to explosiveness and athleticism. No. Is he big enough to shoot over NBA players?

After the sensational trade that saw Kyrie Irving leave Cleveland for Boston and Isaiah Thomas go the other way last summer, the NBA couldn't have wished for a better opening game. The 2017/18 season begins at the Quicken Loans Arena where Irving began his career, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2012, where he won his first NBA title in 2016, and, on Tuesday, where he will properly start his career with the Celtics. The game will be aired on TNT from 8 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by the Houston Rockets' trip to the Golden State Warriors at 10.30 p.m. You can also live-stream the game here with a cable login.

The Denver Nuggets are tinkering with their lineup on the eve of the season opener by bringing in veteran forward Richard Jefferson. A person with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed the one-year agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because Jefferson's deal hasn't been disclosed by the team. ESPN first reported the deal, which it said is worth $2.3 million.

LaMarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs have at times seemed an ill-fitting pair, with a player who spent nine years in another franchise before landing with Gregg Popovich not always looking comfortable in the NBA's most well-established system. The kinks the two sides have been trying to work through had league observers believing Aldridge might not be long for San Antonio. Just as they have for more than 20 years, the Spurs care little about what others think.

The Golden State Warriors begin their NBA title defense Tuesday night against one of the teams expected to provide the biggest roadblocks in their path, the Houston Rockets, in a nationally televised season opener. Led by the same core that dominated both the regular season and the playoffs last year, the Warriors will seek to become the first champ to repeat since the Miami Heat won back-to-back titles in 2012-13. "Coach (Steve Kerr) has challenged us to focus on the details in how we can get better from last year," Warriors star Stephen Curry noted on the eve of the season.

Marc Gasol wanted a boat before the Memphis Grizzlies center settled for a Tesla. Shaun Livingston has been buying diapers - lots and lots of diapers - with his new contract from the Golden State Warriors. NBA teams have doled out about $3 billion in contracts over the first 96 hours of free agency in 2016 and followed that spending spree by dropping at least $3 billion more in 2017.

Minutes after LeBron James lost the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors four months ago, he vowed to return to the gym right away with plans to get back to the big stage. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant heard it yet already knew it - and everybody on the defending champs and King James' Cleveland Cavaliers realizes these teams could be destined for another championship showdown at the end of this season. Cleveland made us better," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.

The 2017-18 NBA season begins on Tuesday, with Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving making a quick return to Cleveland and Houston on the road against defending champions the Golden State Warriors. Irving's trade request and subsequent move to Boston was one of many high-profile switches during the close-season and while the Eastern Conference was a little more subdued than the West, there was still plenty of intrigue. Can anyone unseat the Cavs in the East?

The Sacramento Kings open the 2017-18 schedule Wednesday night against the Houston Rockets at Golden 1 Center and it looks like they might do so with a full arsenal of players at their disposal. Veteran George Hill tweaked his groin Friday against the Golden State Warriors, leaving his availability for opening night in question. Hill, 31, who has a history of groin injuries, was on the court Monday practicing and said he is ready to play.

The wait is over! No more listening to NBA writers drone on about national parks on their podcasts. No more waiting for Charles Barkley to forsake teams who rely on three-pointers. Cleveland, of course, has a bit of a sordid history with homecomings, like when some fans threw batteries at LeBron James in his first game at Cleveland as a member of the Heat in 2010.

In an interview on Mike and Mike on ESPN Monday morning, Silver was responding to Jordan's comments in Cigar Aficionado magazine, when he said super-teams were hurting the overall aspect of the league from a competitive standpoint. "You're going to have one or two teams that are going to be great, and another 28 teams that are going to be garbage," said Jordan, the Charlotte Hornets owner.

A person with direct knowledge of the situation says attorneys for Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott are set for an emergency hearing in federal court in New York as they try again to stop the running back's six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations. Elliott's legal team filed a request for a temporary restraining order Monday and will get a hearing Tuesday in the Southern District of New York, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the filing hadn't been made public. Last year's NFL rushing leader is suspended for Sunday's game at San Francisco after a federal appeals court overturned an injunction that had allowed him to play this season.

The start of a new NBA season always commands attention, given a thirst for gravity-defying dunks and sweet shooters, but this year many may tune in simply to see if players will defy rules and kneel during the national anthem. The gesture has become common across the National Football League and is intended to call attention to what protesting players see as a pattern of racism in the treatment of African-Americans by U.S. police. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has said he expects players to stand during the U.S. national anthem, which has long been a league rule.

With the new basketball season just a day away, Golden State Warrior Andre Iguodala has his eyes on another basketball court to conquer: Apple Park's new - and private - basketball courts. Responding to an article by Business Insider on Apple Park, which outlines all the amenities the $5 billion campus will provide to its 13,000 employees, Iguodala wondered on Twitter whether next year's Warriors training camp can happen in Cupertino. @Cue is Apple executive Eddy Cue. Cue, who supervises all of Apple's internet services such as Apple Music, Apple Pay, and App Store, is a well-known Warriors fan who can regularly be seen in his courtside seat at Oracle Arena. During this year's NBA Finals in June,

With the NBA tipping off its 72nd season on Tuesday, here are 72 reasons to watch in 2017-?18, in case a budding Warriors dynasty, a LeBron James contract year, and a compelling new pack of superstar-laden challengers wasn't enough for you. 1. The NBA's offensive boom shows no signs of abating. Last season, the average NBA team scored 105.6 PPG, the highest mark since 1991 and well, well above the 96.3 PPG that teams averaged just five years ago.

Tuesday is opening night in the NBA, with the Cleveland Cavaliers facing off against the Boston Celtics, followed by the Golden State Warriors taking on the Houston Rockets. Calling this bout "high-tension" might be an understatement.  In his first regular-season game with his new team, Kyrie Irving has to march back to Cleveland and put on a performance good enough to take down both LeBron James and a hostile crowd.  From a fantasy perspective, seeing how Irving moves the ball and plays off-ball in coach Brad Stevens' system should be intriguing.

On television - including during the NBA finals, in which local heroes the Golden State Warriors would ultimately clinch the title - ads featured footage of brown boxes rolling down a warehouse roller conveyer. This was all the handiwork of eBay, the auction website that rose to fame by promising a treasure trove of used goods that could be delivered to your door, provided you make the winning bid. Then, its age started showing, and eBay decided to make a statement in recent months: We're a fun, exciting shopping destination - they posited in this summer's massive marketing push - not just for old car mufflers and used silver tea sets, but rather high-end accessories and next-generation drones.

The weekly NBA Power Rankings from NBC Sports have returned as the NBA season tips off. As always the defending champions start on top - and in the case of the Warriors, the question is will there be more than one week they are not ranked No. 1 this season? Quick note, these rankings come out on Tuesday to start the season, but starting next week and throughout the NBA season they will come out on Wednesday.

Yes, Martavis Bryant wants a trade. Asked Monday if he'd like a change of scenery, Bryant reiterated he's happy in Pittsburgh. Bryant caught two passes for 27 yards in Sunday's 19-13 victory over Kansas City and has just 17 receptions and one touchdown through six games for the first-place Steelers (4-2).

When the Golden State Warriors touched down in China earlier this month for two exhibition games, the reigning NBA champs were greeted like rock stars, with hundreds of screaming fans waiting at the airport and hotel despite their late night arrival. The greeting in Shanghai and Shenzhen cemented the Warriors as a global brand and one that is especially beloved in the fast-growing Chinese market, where 300 million people play basketball, according to the Chinese Basketball Association. "It reminds me of when Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls used to travel.

Adam Silver's NBA has endless action and daily drama. The NBA commissioner isn't worried. Silver believes great teams are good for business, the way Jordan's Bulls were in the 1990s and the way Stephen Curry's and LeBron James' teams are now.

With the NBA season inside-your-jersey close, The Crossover asked its writers to give their awards predictions for the 2017-18 season. The MVP races features some familiar faces (hello, LeBron and Steph), but there's plenty of new names also in the running for awards this season. Can Rudy Gobert take home his first Defensive Player of the Year title?
Mon, 16 Oct 2017 13:34:35 GMT

LeBron James enters the 2017-18 season with a deeper Cleveland Cavaliers team than the one that lost in last year's NBA Finals and anything less than a championship in June could mark the end of his second tenure with the team. James can opt out of the final year of his current contract and become an unrestricted free agent after this season, which many pundits feel the game's greatest player will do if he fails to capture a fourth NBA title.
Mon, 16 Oct 2017 13:09:55 GMT

When its new season tips off Oct. 17, the NBA has ample reason for some optimism regarding seeing its audience numbers go up instead of down. Few experts would disagree that the Warriors are heavy favorites to repeat as champions, which would also mark their third title in four years. The addition of Kevin Durant in 2016 to an already potent lineup led by Stephen Curry makes the Warriors all but unbeatable, so who wants to see a team romp its way to victory once again?
